Beaumont, CA (April 16, 2021) – On Wednesday, a person was injured while police arrested 26-year-old Ledrew Lee of Beaumont in a vehicle crash on Beaumont Avenue.
Police responded to the scene at about 6:10 p.m. on the report of children being kidnapped from a business in the 1200 block area.
The first responding officer was directed to a person leaving in a Toyota Camry. The officer tried to pull over the driver, instead, he sped away.
Then, Lee, the driver fled west for about a mile and he ran a red light at Beaumont Avenue and crashed with two other cars.
During the chase, Lee was with his three children.
Lee ignored orders to get out of the vehicle before police were able to arrest him.
As a result, the other motorist was hospitalized while Lee’s injuries were not described.
Also, rescuers took the children to a hospital for observation.
Moreover, officers said Lee was staying at a motel with a family member when he went extremely upset and left with the children.
“The family was concerned for the welfare of the children due to Ledrew’s declining mental health and drug use,” the officers said.
Ledrew faces three counts of willful cruelty to a child and one count of evading a police officer. Also, Ledrew is a suspect in a Banning Police Department case about a neighbor dispute that ended in gunfire.
