Weather-Related Crash on 5 Freeway in Lebec, Complaints of Pain Reported
LEBEC, CA (May 23, 2019) – One person was hurt following a multi-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon in Lebec.
The crash happened around 4:27 p.m. on northbound 5 Freeway, just South of Grapevine Road. At least four to five vehicles were involved.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a black pickup truck was traveling northbound in a heavy rain when it lost control. It then crossed lanes and struck the center divider, then crossed back into other vehicles.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and found one occupant who complained of pain to the chest and stomach. The patient was taken to a hospital for proper treatment.
All freeway lanes were blocked during the rescue and clearing operations.
An investigation is still ongoing to determine all other factors involved and liability.
Slippery conditions and blurred vision due to downpours are the main causes for traffic accidents during the rainy season, so it is important to take extra care when traveling on the roads during this time. Drive slowly so that you have ample time to react to sudden occurrences. Keep your eyes on the road and hands on the wheel.
