Deceased Body Discovered on 5 Freeway in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (June 4, 2019) – One person was found dead Tuesday afternoon in an area frequented by transients alongside 5 Freeway in downtown San Diego.
The discovery took place at 12:27 p.m. on the southbound side of 5 Freeway at West Washington Street exit.
Caltrans found the body while cleaning known homeless camps. The San Diego police were on the scene until a coroner’s personnel arrived.
The county Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the body for identification and autopsy purposes.
One lane of the off-ramp from southbound 5 Freeway to Washington Street was closed and motorists were advised to drive carefully.
There were no reported indications of any suspicious circumstances related to the death. CHP officials said the fatality appeared possibly drug-related.
Further investigation is underway.
