One Killed after Santa Maria Three-Car Crash on Highway 1
SANTA MARIA, CA (October 7, 2019) – One person sustained fatal injuries in a three-car crash on Highway 1 near Orcutt on Friday, October 4.
The three-vehicle crash occurred at around noon on Highway 1, south of Black Road. California Highway Patrol, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and the Santa Maria Fire Department rushed to the scene.
A Rancho Harvest Farms big rig loaded with celery crashed with a pickup truck that went out of Rancho Maria Golf Course.
The big rig rolled over which resulted in produce and debris covering the entire roadway.
A Volkswagen Jetta attempted to avoid the collision. However, it ended up on its roof in a ditch.
Four people in the Jetta and pickup truck were either not harmed or suffered only minor injuries. Fire crews extricated the driver of the big rig but he died at the scene.
Officials shut down Highway 1 south of Guadalupe from Clark Avenue to Black Road. Crews remained on the scene to clean up and investigate the incident.
