One Killed, Two Hurt in Pacoima Pedestrian Collision on 5 Freeway
PACOIMA, CA (July 8, 2019) – One died and two other people were injured after two pedestrian accidents on 5 Freeway on Saturday, July 7.
The first incident happened at 4:23 a.m. near Osborne, the California Highway Patrol said. A female pedestrian was struck on the freeway. However, it remains unknown why she was on the road. As a result, she died at the scene.
Just after that, the vehicles struck two other people in the same area. CHP investigators believe the two people had stopped at the scene. In addition, police think they were trying to help the struck pedestrian when the vehicles hit them.
Paramedics transported both victims to a local hospital. In addition, at least one victim underwent surgery.
CHP investigators were trying to find out if the first vehicle that struck the pedestrian fled the area. Farther up the freeway, officers talked to a driver who believed his or her car had struck an animal on the road. However, the officers were trying to determine if it was the same car that struck the pedestrian.
The vehicle that struck the other two pedestrians stayed at the scene.
The crashes shut down the northbound freeway for hours near the Osborne Street exit. However, all lanes except one reopened at about 1:20 p.m.
We send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim. We are wishing them strength and comfort as they grieve for their loss.
