Driver Fatally Injured, Ramon Machado Hurt in Willits Collision
WILLITS, CA (January 20, 2019) – One person died in a two-vehicle crash that occurred on Highway 101 on Friday, January 18.
According to California Highway Patrol, at about 4:40 p.m., a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Ramon Machado was moving northbound on Highway 101, just north of Reynolds Highway.
Then, for undetermined reasons, Machado allowed his vehicle to drift to the left into the southbound traffic lane, where it crashed with a 2013 Mercedes Sprinter Van, which was moving southbound on Highway 101.
Machado was brought to Howard Memorial Hospital with major injuries and was evaluated for DUI, which did not appear to be a factor in the incident.
The driver of the Mercedes Sprinter Van was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver is being withheld, pending notification of loved ones by the Mendocino County Coroner.
This crash is still under investigation by the Garberville CHP office.
