One Dead in Pedestrian Accident on 8 Freeway near Japatul Valley Road [Descanso, CA]

Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Car in Descanso Crash

 
DESCANSO, CA (January 20, 2019) – A car struck and killed a pedestrian walking on 8 Freeway in the mountains east of San Diego on Saturday, January 19.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on westbound 8 Freeway just before Japatul Valley Road near Viejas Casino.
 
Cal Fire Capt. Issac Sanchez stated that emergency crews responded to the crash, but the victim sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.
 
It was not yet determined why the person was walking on the freeway, and no information was released on the driver.
