Fatality Reported after Woodland Police Chase Collision
WOODLAND, CA (May 6, 2019) — An armed robbery sparked a police chase crash that claimed the life of a driver in Woodland on Thursday, May 2.
The police said that two people robbed a Woodland gas station at around 3:20 a.m.
The clerk told a local news source that the robbers didn’t leave with any money but may have stolen some liquor.
The clerk pushed the panic alarm when the robbers presented a gun. A witness also saw the crime in progress and informed the police.
Woodland police stated that an officer saw a getaway car backed up to the store. Then a man left the store and went into the vehicle. This lead to the police chase on County Road 101.
The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into a power pole and then rolled over. The impact of the collision pinned the driver in the car, while the passenger was thrown off. The passenger died. Emergency responders transported the driver to a hospital.
Officers closed County Road 101 between Churchill Downs Avenue and County Road 18-C during the on-scene investigation and clearing operation.
