One Fatally Injured in Bicycle Accident in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (September 9, 2019) – One person died after a bicycle accident on Los Coyotes Diagonal in Long Beach on Thursday, September 5.
The man, an 82-year-old Long Beach resident, rode his bicycle eastbound across the left lane of northbound Los Coyotes Diagonal north of Stearns Street. Then a car traveling northbound just before noon struck him, police stated.
Long Beach paramedics treated the man on scene before transporting him to a hospital in critical condition. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital Saturday, Sept. 7.
His identity was not released by authorities pending notification of his loved ones.
The driver, a 19-year-old Los Angeles man, stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigation. He had a valid driver’s license and was not impaired or distracted when the crash happened, police said.
