Derek Ellis Injured in Sonora DUI Car Accident on Tuolumne Road

 
SONORA, CA (April 1, 2021) – Monday afternoon, Omari Chenualt was arrested, while Derek Ellis and Victor Basset suffered injuries in the DUI crash on Tuolumne Road.
 
The rear-end crash happened on Tuolumne Road, just west of Soulsbyville Road.
 
According to the CHP, 24-year-old Omari Chenualt of Long Barn drove his 1990 Toyota Pickup. He was speeding while heading east on Tuolumne Road.
 
Meanwhile, 54-year-old Derek Ellis of Sonora drove ahead of Chenualt. As he traveled in his 2009 Dodge SUV, he tried to turn left into a private driveway.
 
Subsequently, Chenualt could not stop his vehicle in time, and crashed into the rear end of the SUV.
 
Ellis and Chenualt received treatment for minor injuries at a local hospital. Meanwhile, 23-year-old Victor Bassett of Twain Harte, a passenger in the pickup, also suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.
 
CHP officers confirmed that Chenualt was “driving his vehicle while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.” Thus, they took him into custody for felony DUI and set his bail at $35,000.
