29-Year-Old Omar Garcia Dead After Rollover Collision near 405 Freeway
MISSION HILLS, CA (December 9, 2018) – A 29-year-old man from Canyon Country was killed in a solo-car accident on 5 Freeway, early Sunday morning.
Police have identified the victim as Omar Garcia.
Dispatchers received several calls just after 12:00 AM, about a vehicle that overturned near the 405 Freeway.
California Highway Patrol officials stated Garcia was driving a 1996 Nissan pickup truck when, he made a dangerous move which caused the vehicle to overturn multiple times. The driver was then ejected from the pickup, and ended up on the left side embankment.
First responders arrived at the scene around 12:35 AM, and transported the victim to Providence Holy Cross Hospital Center in Mission Hills. Garcia succumbed his injuries, and was pronounced dead around 2:00 AM.
All southbound lanes on the 5 Freeway leading to the 405 Freeway, were shut down due to the collision, while clearing operations and preliminary investigation took place in the area. They reopened at around 5:30 AM.
It is unknown if alcohol and drugs were contributing factors in the accident. No further details have been disclosed, as the investigation continues.
