1 Dead in Bow Pedestrian Accident
BOW, WA (January 30, 2019) – A 45-year-old Sedro-Woolley male resident died after being struck by four vehicles on 5 Freeway January 26.
According to reports, the man was strolling along the fog line of southbound 5 Freeway near the Bow Hill Road exit6 when he was struck by multiple vehicles. It was revealed that the incident involved eight vehicles, including two which was driven by Bellingham drivers.
As a result of the collision, both southbound lanes of 5 Freeway just north of the exit were closed for more than six hours, the Washington State Department of Transportation tweeted.
The Washington State Patrol also stated that at around 11:18 p.m., Oly Stan Oberg died while walking north along the fog line behind a car that was parked on the right shoulder of the freeway. Trooper Heather Axtman also said that she was still not certain whether the car Oberg was walking behind was his own.
18-year-old Nathaniel Patrick Wheeler of Mount Vernon hit Oberg in the right lane through a black 2003 Subaru Forester. Wheeler sustained a minor injury and was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital.
The release also stated that a Peterbuilt semi truck and trailer and two other cars then struck Oberg in the left lane. The drivers of the said vehicles were reportedly unharmed, and all were able to drive away from the area.
Two other vehicles hit the debris. These two vehicles were also able to drive away. Meanwhile, two other cars that drove into the median were able to prevent the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
