Pedestrian Oly Oberg Struck and Killed in Bow
BOW, WA (January 26, 2019) – On Saturday night, 45-year-old Oly Oberg from Sedro-Woolley was struck and killed by a car on the 5 Freeway.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred around 11:00 PM near Bow Hill Road.
As per reports, Oberg was walking along the fog line behind a vehicle that was stopped on the right shoulder of the freeway, when he was struck by a 2003 Subaru Forester driven by 18-year-old Nathaniel Wheeler from Mount Vernon.
Due to the impact, Oberg was also struck by three other vehicles. First responders arrived and declared Oberg dead on scene. Wheeler suffered minor injuries and was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital. No other injuries were reported in the collision.
The surrounding area was closed off for a brief time for cleanup and preliminary investigation, but has since reopened. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were considered factors in the accident. No further details have been released regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident at this time.
