Two Fresno Police Officers Injured in Crash with Arturo Gutierrez near Lewis Avenue
FRESNO, CA (March 20, 2018) – Two motorcycle police officers were injured in a road crash on Fresno Street on Tuesday afternoon around 2 PM.
The incident occurred on Fresno Street near the intersection with Lewis Avenue, when a pickup truck driven by 47-year-old Arturo Gutierrez made an illegal left turn in front of the police officers. The officers were unable to avoid the collision and crashed into Gutierrez’s car.
Officer Brian Chadwick, a 13-year-veteran of the department, sustained facial injuries and a severe gash to his right knee. Officer Stephen Craig, who has been serving the department for 17 years, also sustained facial injuries, a broken bone in his left arm, and experienced lower abdominal pain. Both were rushed to the Community Regional Medical Center and are expected to fully recover from their injuries.
Gutierrez was not hurt in the crash. He remained at the scene and is cooperated with authorities. The collision is still under investigation by officials, in order to determine if Gutierrez will be cited.
Make sure to use your turn signal and look over the shoulder when turning into another lane or crossing an intersection.
