Aralas Ector Detained after Hitting Robert Stevens in Lemon Grove
LEMON GROVE, CA (August 16, 2019) – A CHP officer sustained injuries while authorities arrested a 32-year-old man in a DUI collision on August 14.
Aralas Ector of Sping Valley drove an eastbound 2006 Nissan Altima on Highway 94 near College Avenue about 10:30 p.m. However, CHP officer Robert Stevens noticed Ector driving recklessly with damage to the front of his vehicle.
Officer Stevens just entered the eastbound freeway at Kelton Avenue. After that, he spotted the Nissan “had prior collision damage to its hood impairing the driver’s field of view.”
Officer Stevens passed the Nissan and pulled over on the right shoulder to wait for the sedan to pass so he could pull it over.
While waiting, the Nissan pulled up behind Officer Stevens and stopped directly behind the patrol vehicle.
The officer went out of his car to talk to Ector. However, Ector accelerated directly at the officer. Stevens jumped onto the trunk of his vehicle to avoid a collision. However, Ector’s car hit Steven’s legs before hitting the patrol car’s driver’s side door. After that, Ector continued eastbound.
Stevens sustained moderate injuries in the collision. Officer Stevens notified dispatchers about his injuries and described the car and its location.
Another officer located the Nissan traveling between 15-20 mph. The second officer successfully arrested Ector near Lemon Grove Avenue on suspicion of DUI causing injury and felony hit-and-run.
In addition, another driver in a 2008 Pontiac G6 sedan, a 26-year-old woman believed to be Ector’s girlfriend, came to the scene. As a result, officers also arrested her on suspicion of DUI.
In addition, responders transported Robert Stevens to Sharp Grossmont Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
