Officer Nicholas Vella Killed in Helicopter Crash near Lido Peninsula [Huntington Beach, CA]

1 Dead and 1 Injured in Huntington Beach Plane Accident near Lido Peninsula

 
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (February 20, 2022) – Saturday, Officer Nicholas Vella died in a helicopter crash near Lido Peninsula.
 
According to reports, their helicopter, a 1998 Hughes 500, crash-landed near Lido Peninsula. As a result, 44-year-old Officer Nicholas J. Vella, a 14-year-veteran of the Huntington Beach Department, died. Meanwhile, another officer sustained injuries.
 
“He served the community of Huntington Beach with honor and dignity. Please join us in extending prayers to Officer Vella’s family,” Huntington Beach police said.
 
The Orange County Fire Authority, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, and Anaheim Police Department responded. They dispatched their helicopters to help in the rescue effort.
