1 Hospitalized in San Diego Auto Accident on Encino Avenue
SAN DIEGO, CA ( March 2, 2021) – Early Monday morning, an officer sustained injuries after a police chase ended in a crash on Encino Avenue.
According to authorities, just after midnight, officers from California Highway Patrol attempted to pull over a red Acura MDX. They tried to stop the vehicle for speeding and swerving on Interstate 805 near Murray Ridge Road.
Moments later, an officer directed the vehicle to pull off onto Phyllis Street. However, as the officer approached the car, the vehicle made a U-turn and fled.
Meanwhile, authorities learned that the vehicle carrying three people was reported stolen in a carjacking incident in Escondido. Thus, officers chased the suspect vehicle until it made a turn into a dead-end street on Encino Avenue.
Furthermore, the officers got out of their vehicle and started to approach the car. Then, it started to made a U-turn and sped towards their patrol vehicle. Officers in defense started to fire their weapons. The suspect vehicle struck the patrol vehicle, pinning an officer between the two vehicles.
Moreover, the suspect vehicle fled the scene, while officers tried to follow but lose sight of the car. The vehicle then was later found abandoned in the 2200 block of Royale Crescent Court. Authorities detained a 21-year-old man on suspicion of driving the suspect vehicle while a 17-year-old girl seen nearby was also detained. Officers were on the lookout for the third person in the car.
Responders transported the CHP officer to a hospital with minor injuries. He was later released.
