Driver Arrested in DUI Crash Near Deer Creek Road
Ventura, CA (December 17, 2023) – An officer was injured following a suspected DUI crash on Pacific Coast Highway Saturday afternoon.
The crash happened at about 8:40 p.m. near Deer Creek Road between Malibu and Oxnard.
CHP said a speeding driver of a white Mercedes was traveling into oncoming traffic and collided with the Ventura County Sheriff’s SUV.
The impact of the collision sent the officer’s SUV, ridden by Deputy Castaneda and his K-9 partner Danny, to the side of the road toward the rocks next to the ocean.
The deputy who sustained minor injuries and the Mercedes driver in unknown condition were transported to Ventura County Medical Center.
The accident report said Danny incurred a cut to his face.
Moreover, investigators believe the sedan’s driver was under the influence at the time of the accident. That driver was on probation for DUI and was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail on a new DUI charge.
