Animal Control Officer Harvey Beck Hurt in Hemet Car Accident

HEMET, CA (June 14, 2019) – An animal control officer suffered injuries in a hit-and-run accident on State Street on June 12.

Officer Harvey Beck was driving at around 4:00 p.m. on State Street and Stetson Avenue, Department of Animal Services Public Information Officer John Welsh said.

Beck drove north on State Street, heading to the county’s San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus. After that, a male driving a Chevrolet Suburban sped out of a parking lot. As a result, he crashed into the passenger side of the SUV.

“The driver of the Suburban exited the vehicle and fled the scene on a skateboard,” Welsh revealed. “Authorities started a search of the area.”

Beck sustained injuries to his right thumb and ankle. Welsh added that the officer did not want an ambulance to take him to a hospital. However, he wanted to get medical treatment on his own.

“We know many people may have wondered if the crash hurt any animals. So we wanted to share this incident to ensure everyone that the truck was empty,” Animal Services Lt. John Stephens stated. “Of course, we’re also relieved that Officer Beck should recover well too.”

Authorities are encouraging anyone with information to call the Hemet Police Department at 951-765-2400.

Driving can be very dangerous and almost anything can happen if you are not prepared. It is important to always drive within the posted speed limit. In addition, slow down if you see traffic slowing ahead to avoid hitting other vehicles.
