Police Officer Killed in I-70 DUI Crash
St. Louis, MO (September 24, 2024) – Officer David Lee, 44, was killed in a pedestrian accident on Interstate 70 Sunday morning.
It was around 8:30 a.m. when the collision happened on the eastbound lanes near Grand Avenue.
The accident report stated that an 18-year veteran was struck by a car while responding to a collision involving an off-duty Ferguson firefighter.
Immediately, St. Louis firefighters responded to the scene and rushed Officer Lee to Saint Louis University Hospital. He had an emergency surgery but succumbed to his injuries.
Moreover, the authorities arrested the 24-year-old driver of the car that struck Lee. Officers said the driver showed signs of impairment.
Investigators said another officer was responding to assist Lee in the initial collision but hadn’t yet arrived when the vehicle struck Lee and the firefighter involved in the initial collision provided immediate assistance to Lee when he was hit.
Officers are still investigating.
