3 Hospitalized after Patrol Car Crashes into Store on Cesar Chavez Parkway near National Avenue
BARRIO LOGAN, CA (June 26, 2019) – Three people suffered injuries after a patrol car crashed into a store on Cesar Chavez Parkway, Wednesday morning.
According to the San Diego Police Department, the incident happened shortly after 9:00 AM. A 2017 Nissan Altima allegedly ran a stoplight near National Avenue and hit a San Diego Community College District patrol car.
The impact sent the patrol car veering onto a sidewalk, where it struck a pedestrian and crashed into Ponderosa Deli Market.
Emergency responders transported the 34-year-old pedestrian to a trauma center for treatment of a compound fracture to his right leg. Medics also rushed the college policewoman and an Altima passenger to a nearby hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Authorities did not provide updates on the victims’ current conditions.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the crash. Also, investigators encourage witnesses to reach out as soon as possible. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
