Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fatal Multi-Vehicle Wreck on Highway 180 at McCall Avenue
SANGER, CA (February 4, 2019) – Two men were killed following a multi-vehicle pileup that was caused by a wrong-way driver late Monday afternoon in Sanger.
The fatal crash happened around 5:00 p.m. on westbound Highway 180 at McCall Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was heading eastbound on the westbound lanes of Highway 180 and was weaving through traffic, when it went off the roadway and crashed into five other cars.
The Chevrolet then struck a white Dodge Ram head-on. The man driving the Dodge, along with the Chevy driver, was killed upon impact. People in the other five vehicles were injured.
The Dodge pickup truck’s driver was later identified as Phia Vang, an off-duty Fresno Police Officer.
The wrong-way driver has also been identified as a 33-year-old Cameron Pryor. Fresno County court records show Pryor pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in 2011. He was sentenced to 180 days in jail, fined and ordered to attend an alcohol program.
Investigation of this fatal crash is still ongoing.
