Octavio Morales Hurt in Tragic 2-Vehicle Crash on IH-20 [Sheffield, TX]

Sheffield, TX (February 8, 2024) On Tuesday evening, 56-year-old Octavio Morales was hospitalized and 32-year-old Mark Anthony Lopez Jr was killed in a 2-vehicle crash on IH-20.

According to Texas DPS, the fatal crash happened on Highway 20 after a failed traffic stop.

Reports say that a Pecos County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop Lopez, after stopping initially, Lopez drove away westbound on IH-20.

Officials say that at mile marker 320, Lopez attempted to turn around in the center median. Meanwhile, an eastbound big rig, driven by Morales was headed Lopez’s direction.

Morales, attempted to avoid collision by braking before crossing the shoulder and into the south barrow ditch. Unfortunately, Lopez struck the big rig.

Officials pronounced Lopez dead at the scene, while, Morales was rushed to Iraan Memorial Hospital.

Authorities are investgating the fatal crash and have not released additional details at this time.
