Early Morning Pedestrian Crash on 5 Freeway in Oceanside Turns Deadly
OCEANSIDE, CA (May 9, 2019) – A woman was killed in a pedestrian crash early Thursday morning on 5 Freeway in Oceanside.
The crash was reported around 4:13 a.m. in the southbound direction of 5 Freeway, just South of Las Pulgas Road.
One caller told the dispatcher the woman wearing a brown dress was staggering on the right shoulder and walking against traffic, while others said she appeared to be trying to step in front of vehicles.
Soon after, the unidentified woman was fatally struck by a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene.
A later collision involving two big rigs spilled beer across freeway lanes.
Two right lanes of 5 Freeway near Las Pulgas Road remained closed into the afternoon as crews worked to clear up broken aluminum kegs and spilled beer, CHP officials said.
All freeway lanes finally reopened around 3:00 p.m., but traffic remained slow in the area from San Clemente south to Las Pulgas Road.
The fatal incident remains under investigation.
