Injuries Reported after Vehicle Flew Off from Highway near Vista Way and Valley Glen Drive

OCEANSIDE, CA (May 4, 2018) – Three people suffered injuries after a car flew off from the road, causing a multi-vehicle collision on State Route 78, late Friday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened around 4:45 PM near Vista Way and Valley Glen Drive intersection. A Buick, driven by a 20-year-old Escondido woman, was heading westbound on the highway when it suddenly drifted to the right, crashing into a chain link fence.

The vehicle landed on Vista Way, directly in front of the iFly Oceanside Skydiving Center. The Buick crashed head-on into a Ford Thunderbird then sideswiped a Nissan van towing a 15-foot fishing boat that came loose and struck two more vehicles, a Chrysler 300 and a Toyota Prius. Reports say that the boat was in pieces as a result of the collision.

The driver and the front passenger inside the Buick sustained injuries and were airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, while the rear passenger was transported to the Palomar Medical Center in Escondido. Other people involved in the collision were either unharmed or not seriously injured.

Affected areas in Vista Way were shut down for approximately two hours and later reopened to the public. The collision is still under investigation, but intoxication is not considered as a factor that contributed to the incident. No other information is available to the public at the moment.

When driving on the highway, it is important to remain alert and aware at all times. By driving carefully and following the rules of the road, dangerous accidents can be prevented.
