Tow Truck Driver Obinna Ugorji Dies, Larry Godbold Arrested in Interstate 5 Crash
Sacramento, CA (March 29, 2021) – On Saturday, 40-year-old Obinna Ugorji of Sacramento died in a DUI crash on Interstate 5.
Officers received the crash report at around 11:40 p.m. near Seamas Avenue.
Mr. Ugorji was working when he was sent out to the northbound lanes of I-5 to service a disabled vehicle.
Moreover, he pulled his truck over, activated his amber lights, and began hooking up a customer’s vehicle on the shoulder.
Just then, Ugorji and his truck were struck by a Chrysler Town and Country minivan.
As a result, the tow truck driver was thrown into the roadway and sustained fatal injuries.
Unfortunately, the officers pronounced the Sacramento man dead at the scene.
The driver of the minivan, 46-year-old Larry Godbold of Sacramento, was not injured in the accident. Meanwhile, he refused to give a statement regarding the accident.
Shortly after, officers suspected Godbold was drinking and arrested him on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol and gross vehicular manslaughter. They booked him into Sacramento County Main Jail.
