Oakland Bicyclist Injured in East 15th Street Hit-and-Run Crash [Oakland, CA]

Oakland, CA (April 9, 2022) – On Thursday, a 38-year-old bicyclist from Oakland sustained injuries in an East 15th Street hit-and-run crash.

The collision took place at about 4:10 p.m. at the intersection with Eighth Avenue.

According to the investigators, the unidentified bicycle rider was eastbound on East 15th Street in a dedicated bicycle lane. He went into the intersection at Eighth Avenue on a green light. 

At the same time, a white Cadillac Escalade was southbound on Eighth Avenue and did not stop for a red light.

The SUV struck the bicycle.

As a result, the bicycle rider was thrown to the pavement. He sustained major head and other injuries.

The SUV driver drove eastbound on East 15th Street after the incident.

Moreover, officers said speed appears to be a factor in the accident. Though, they are still investigating if DUI also played a role in the crash. The authorities have not yet released a description of the hit-and-run vehicle.

Meanwhile, the Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 reward money for details leading to the arrest of the SUV driver.
