Rider Hospitalized in North Hills Motorcycle Wreck
NORTH HILLS, CA (November 20, 2018) – A motorcyclist was seriously injured Sunday after he was struck by a driver on Lassen Street near the 605 Freeway.
The incident happened when George Ramirez heard a loud crash outside of his home. When he rushed out, he found a severely injured motorcyclist in front of his metal gate.
According to news reports, the 20-year-old motorcyclist was traveling on Lassen Street when he was struck by a motorist, attempting a left-hand turn. The victim was captured on surveillance footage flying about 80 feet and sliding down the sidewalk before coming to a stop in front of Ramirez’s home. The rider was hospitalized in an ICU Friday night after going through several surgeries. The unidentified rider suffered two collapsed lungs in the crash and had to undergo a surgery to repair his spleen and kidneys.
The victim is expected to survive, say, officials. The driver, as well as other passersby, tended to the injured rider.
Officials are investigating the cause of the crash and are asking anyone with information regarding this to come forward.
Always be alert when driving. Car accidents happen at any time and it’s best to always take a moment to look before turning or proceeding through an intersection. Another important tip to keep in mind includes putting all distractions away, watching your speed, and never assuming anyone is a safe driver.
