Morning Collision on 80 Freeway in North Highlands Ends in Fatality
NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA (January 5, 2019) – At least one person was killed following a traffic collision Saturday morning in North Highlands.
The collision happened just before 8:00 a.m. on westbound 80 Freeway at Longview Drive off-ramp.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a white van was swerving in and out of lanes when it crashed into the center divider.
When officers arrived, the vehicle was blocking the first and second lanes of the freeway. Emergency crews provided life-saving measures, but at least one fatality was found as a result of the accident.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending next of kin notification.
Three freeway lanes were shut down for the on-scene investigation.
It is unknown if speed, drugs and/or alcohol were contributing factors of the crash. We will continue to update this post as new details are accessible.
