Norma Velasquez Killed in Lancaster Accident
LANCASTER, CA (July 23, 2019) – Officials have identified one of the two people who died in a collision Friday morning.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office said 45-year-old Norma Murillo Velasquez of Lancaster died in the incident that occurred on Avenue E at 90th Street East. The other person who died in the crash is a Hispanic female in her 40s. Officials did not released her name yet.
The California Highway Patrol reported that calls about the incident came in at around 11:35 a.m. Friday. An investigation found that Velasquez drove a 2006 Chevy Equinox northbound on 90th Street East when she failed to stop at a stop sign at Avenue E. At the same time, a 2013 Peterbilt truck and trailer was eastbound on Avenue E. It attempted to turn left onto Avenue E when it struck the Chevy.
As per CHP, the front of the big rig struck the driver side of the Chevy. As a result, both Velasquez and the front passenger of the vehicle suffered fatal injuries.
The rear passengers of the Chevy sustained major injuries and were transported to Antelope Valley Hospital.
The Peterbilt driver, Jose Perez of Calipatria, was not injured in the collision.
Officials did not suspect that alcohol and/or drugs were factors in the incident. Contact Officer Robert Rockafellow at the Antelope Valley CHP Office at 661-948-8541 with any information.
