31-Year-Old Bakersfield Woman Fatally Struck by Vehicle near Cottonwood Road
BAKERSFIELD, CA (September 26, 2018) – A woman was killed Wednesday evening following a pedestrian crash near Cottonwood Road. The victim was later identified as 31-year-old Norma Natalie Santana, a resident of Bakersfield.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at about 7:00 PM in the 1700 block of Cheatham Avenue. The pedestrian was attempting to cross the street when she was struck by a vehicle that was traveling at high speeds.
Santana sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers. Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid and fled the area, leaving the injured woman in the road. However, he returned a short time later and was arrested for felony hit-and-run.
Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as possible contributing factors in the fatal collision, which remains under investigation. No other information has been disclosed to the public at this time.
