Nikki Hu Involved in Tragic Multi-Vehicle Crash on State Route 20 near Wadsworth Canal Bridge [Yuba City, CA]

Fatalities Reported in Yuba City Multi-Vehicle Accident on State Route 20 near Wadsworth Canal Bridge

YUBA CITY, CA (July 6, 2023) – Wednesday morning, Nikki Hu was involved in a tragic multi-vehicle crash on State Route 20 near Wadsworth Canal Bridge.

The incident happened at about 8:30 a.m. on State Route 20 near Wadsworth Canal Bridge.

According to reports, a 30-year-old man from Clearlake drove a white 2016 Nissan Versa east on State Route 20 and approaching the Wadsworth Canal Bridge. Also, a 23-year-old pregnant woman from Marysville rode with him as a passenger, as well as a large brown dog in the back seat of the Nissan.

Meanwhile, 45-year-old Nikki Hu of Yuba City drove a westbound black 2017 Chevy Tahoe on SR-20 and approaching the same bridge. Then, 48-year-old Joel Mendoza, also of Yuba City, drove a 2011 Ford F-150 and towing a dump trailer behind Hu.

As the three vehicles traveled on the bridge, the driver of the Nissan veered into the path of the Tahoe and they crashed in the westbound lane. Mendoza failed to stop and his Ford crashed with the rear of the Tahoe.

When responders arrived, they found the driver and passenger of the Nissan trapped inside the vehicle.

Upon extrication, responders airlifted the driver to Sutter Roseville Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. Meanwhile, the pregnant passenger suffered major injuries and was transported to Adventist Health Rideout. However, the hospital was unable to save the unborn child. Also, Sutter County Animal Control responded at the scene and took the dog to Northpointe Animal Hospital where he also died of his injuries.

Hu suffered minor injuries and was taken to Adventist Health for treatment.

Meanwhile, the authorities do not believe that alcohol played a role in the crash. Furthermore, the authorities urged any witnesses to contact their investigators at (530) 645-6200.
