Police Arrest Nicole Schalles in Honcut DUI Accident on Highway 70
Honcut, CA (February 06, 2021) – On Thursday, police arrested 36-year-old Nicole Schalles after a fatal DUI crash on Highway 70.
Authorities responded to the incident near the intersection of Middle Honcut Road.
When they arrived, they determined that Schalles was driving a 2018 Volvo northbound at a high speed, with a 2008 Acura ahead of her in the northbound lane.
Apparently, Schalles attempted to accelerate past the Acura. The right front of her vehicle clipped the left rear of the Acura. Her vehicle rolled off the road into a perimeter fence.
Moreover, the Acura driver lost control of the vehicle. It spun in a counter-clockwise direction into the southbound side of the highway and rested facing south.
Afterward, a 2000 Ford Focus traveling southbound rear-ended the Acura.
Unfortunately, the Acura driver, who is the sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene. Authorities withheld his identity pending notification of next of kin.
Traffic crews towed Schalles Volvo SUV for evidence.
Police arrested and booked Schalles at the Butte County Jail on suspicion of DUI causing bodily injury and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
Meanwhile, the Ford Focus driver did not incur injuries from the incident.
All of the involved parties were wearing seatbelts during the Honcut crash.
