Andrew Ruddy Injured in Hesperia Fatal Crash
Hesperia, CA (January 23, 2023) – On January 21, Nicole Ruddy, 33, and her unborn child, were killed in a Highway 395 DUI collision.
The fatal collision took place at about 11:40 p.m. north of Poplar Street.
According to the authorities investigating this case, Eddie Escobedo, 36, of Hesperia, was driving a northbound black 2020 Ford Explorer on the freeway.
At the same time, Andrew Ruddy, 36, of Orange, was driving a southbound 2018 Toyota Corolla. Ruddy’s wife, Nicole Ruddy, who was 35 weeks pregnant was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
“While driving north on Highway 395, Escobedo drove the Explorer into oncoming lanes of traffic in front of the Corolla, causing a head-on collision. Escobedo was identified and contacted in the driver seat of the Explorer,” the authorities stated.
Immediately, fire department rushed Escobedo, Andrew, and Nicole to regional trauma centers. Escobedo and Andrew incurred major injuries due to the collision.
However, despite life saving procedures done on Nicole, she and her unborn child died.
During the investigation, the authorities determined Escobedo was under the influence of alcohol when the collision took place. Officers said he was over the California legal limit at the time of the crash.
Escobedo was treated for his injuries and was later booked at the West Valley Detention Center for California Penal Code section 191.5(a) – Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated. He remains in jail on $100,000 bail.
