19-Year-Old Pronounced Dead after Shasta Lake Car Crash near Shasta Dam Boulevard
SHASTA LAKE, CA (March 5, 2020) – Early Sunday morning, a 19-year-old woman died in a rollover crash on 5 Freeway near Shasta Dam Boulevard on March 1.
According to reports, the fatal collision happened shortly before 5:30 a.m. The fatal crash was seen by a passing motorist on northbound 5 Freeway near Shasta Dam Boulevard.
A motorist had allegedly contacted 911 after seeing a white 2002 Dodge in a grove of trees with its lights on.
Officials eventually located a small passenger car that appeared to have overturned multiple times, leaving significant damage on the driver’s side of the vehicle. Firefighters then located Hopman, the only occupant of the vehicle, inside the damaged car.
The Shasta County Chief officers later identifed the deceased as Nevaeh Hopman of Redding. CHP declared Hopman dead at the scene. The victim reportedly wore her seat belt when the collision happened.
It’s still unclear whether alcohol or drug intoxication played a role in the crash which remains under investigation.
