60-Year-Old Alleghany Man Fatally Injured in Head-On Crash near Rush Creek Way
NEVADA CITY, CA (March 23, 2018) – On Friday afternoon around 2:30 PM, a three-vehicle collision on Highway 49 killed a 60-year-old Alleghany man and injured another.
75-year-old Franklin Milhous of Nevada City was traveling north on Highway 49 in a Dodge pickup truck, when he suddenly crossed to the southbound lanes. His truck hit an oncoming Jeep Wrangler, causing a head-on collision. The impact caused the Jeep to roll down the west road edge embankment.
A third vehicle behind the Jeep managed to drive around and avoid another collision. However, debris from the crash still hit his windshield, resulting in minor injuries.
Milhous was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with major injuries, while the third driver declined hospitalization. The 60-year-old Jeep driver was declared dead at the scene. According to the California Highway Patrol, he was not secured with a seatbelt when the accident occurred.
Authorities said that drugs or alcohol were not involved in the crash. The victim’s identity has not yet been released to the public, pending notification to his family members. No other information is available at the moment.
