Head-On Crash on Gilman Springs Road in San Jacinto Kills 2 and Injures 6
SAN JACINTO, CA (August 18, 2019) – Two people died following a head-on crash Sunday morning in San Jacinto, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash happened around 5:28 a.m. on Gilman Springs Road, a half-mile west of Highway 79. According to the CHP, the crash happened when a 2004 Lexus sedan, heading east on Gilman Springs Road, crossed two sets of solid, double-yellow lines. It then collided head-on into a 2008 Toyota Sienna van carrying six people.
As a result, the front passenger of the Lexus died in the crash, according to the CHP. The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified him as Nestor Canales, 31, of Riverside.
Paramedics transported the Lexus driver and his other passenger, a 24-year-old Moreno Valley woman, to a hospital. Both suffered major injuries.
A 64-year-old Los Angeles woman, who was a passenger in the van, also died in the crash. Her name was not immediately available.
The driver of the van, a 52-year-old Los Angeles man, and his four surviving passengers all had serious injuries and were taken to a hospital.
Drugs, alcohol and fatigue had not been ruled out as factors in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
