Compton Man Identified as Bicyclist Rear-Ended by Vehicle on 91 Freeway
COMPTON, CA (October 10, 2019) – Authorities identified 43-year-old Nelson Mariano Velez-Segovia of Compton as the bicyclist hit by a vehicle on 91 Freeway, Thursday morning.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at about 6:40 AM. The victim was in the No.4 lane of the eastbound freeway. There, a 2018 Toyota was unable to avoid a collision and rear-ended his bicycle.
Emergency responders pronounced Velez-Segovia dead at the scene. Meanwhile, the Toyota driver remained and cooperated with investigators. The 51-year-old motorist did not suffer injuries and was not arrested.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fatal incident. They encourage witnesses to reach out and cooperate as soon as possible. Officers will release additional information once it becomes available.
