DUI Driver Kyle Griffith Arrested in Deadly Head-On Crash on Highway 198 in King City
KING CITY, CA (November 3, 2019) – A woman died following a DUI head-on crash Sunday evening on Highway 198 in King City.
The crash happened around 7:37 p.m. just east of Pine Valley Road.
CHP officials said a 39-year-old Kyle Griffith from Simi Valley was driving a gray Toyota Tacoma westbound. He tried to pass another vehicle illegally and upon crossing the double yellow lines, he struck a red Nissan pickup truck head-on.
The impact pushed the Nissan into the south shoulder, while the Toyota overturned and caught fire in the north shoulder. Griffith and his passenger got out before the fire spread to about 500 feet.
The driver of the Nissan, a 42-year-old King City man, was ejected and airlifted to the hospital with major injuries. His passenger, 35-year-old Nazaria Rivera Garcia died at the scene.
Paramedics also airlifted Griffith’s passenger to a hospital with major injures.
Police arrested Griffith for driving under the influence of alcohol. His injuries were minor. Investigation is ongoing.
