Nathan Soto Dead and 1 Injured After Crash on 19th Avenue in Phoenix

Phoenix, AZ (February 26, 2024) – On Monday morning, 25-year-old Nathan Soto died, and one person sustained critical injuries in a solo vehicle crash on 19th Avenue.

The crash occurred around 10:15 a.m. on 19th Avenue near Campbell Avenue, situated between Camelback and Indian School roads. 

Upon arrival, Phoenix police discovered a car that had collided with a wooden utility pole, causing it to fall and bring down power lines onto the car.

Before police could get to the scene, witnesses had already extracted the driver, 25-year-old Nathan Soto, from the vehicle. 

However, the downed power lines prevented them from reaching the passenger, due to the risk of electrocution.

Firefighters were able to rescue the passenger from the car after SRP cut the power just after 11 a.m. 

Both men received hospital treatment for life-threatening injuries, where Soto was later pronounced dead. 

The other man is still in the hospital. Detectives have determined that Soto was speeding and lost control of the car after crossing a canal, leading to the crash into the utility pole. 

The crash resulted in the closure of 19th Avenue between Glenrosa and Campbell avenues for several hours as detectives worked to ascertain the cause.

Following the incident, more than 900 SRP customers in the vicinity experienced power outages, with nearly all services restored thereafter. 

The investigation into the crash is still underway.
