Natalie Aceves Dead, Two Hurt in Selma Head-on Collision
SELMA, CA (March 26, 2019) – A woman who was four months pregnant died following a head-on crash near Selma on Friday, March 22.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred near Conejo Avenue and Fowler Avenue at about 4:15 p.m.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the victim on Monday as 23-year-old Natalie Aceves, of Hanford.
Aceves had her stepdaughter riding in the front passenger seat. The 11-year-old suffered severe injuries and in critical condition at a local hospital.
Aceves was driving a black sedan when a white Chevy Malibu in front of her attempted to make a U-turn, according to CHP. Meanwhile, a white Silverado traveling in the opposite direction then veered to avoid crashing into the Malibu. But in the process, the Silverado struck Aceves’ black sedan head-on despite attempts from both cars to avoid a collision, spokesman Victor Taylor stated.
Aceves, along with her unborn baby, died at the scene. Paramedics brought her injured stepdaughter to Community Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the Silverado was transported to Selma Community Hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Malibu fled the scene, CHP said. Officers ask the public for any information on that driver or the vehicle.
