Multiple Injured in DUI Crash on East Market Street [Salinas, CA]

Florencio Maldonado Arrested after Hit-and-Run Accident near Carr Avenue

SALINAS, CA (October 1, 2018) – Multiple people were injured Monday morning following a DUI crash on East Market Street. The identities of the victims were not immediately released to the public.

According to the Salinas Police Department, the incident took place at about 10:00 AM. 44-year-old Florencio Maldonado initially collided with a vehicle near Carr Avenue and fled the area. The hit-and-run driver was followed by several witnesses before he slammed into a parked car at Parkway Drive and Eucalyptus Drive.

SPD officers arrived at the scene and observed that Maldonado showed obvious signs of intoxication. The unlicensed driver was later arrested and found to be drunk with a blood alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, causing bodily injury, hit-and-run involving injury, driving without a license, and for not having vehicle registration.

Meanwhile, the passengers involved in the first crash reported pain in their necks and backs. It is unknown whether or not the victims required hospitalization.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the events that led to the crash and to identify other possible contributing factors. No additional information has been disclosed at this time.
