Jesus Munoz Arrested after DUI Crash on State Route 76 in Pala San Diego

San Diego, CA (September 20, 2023) – On Wednesday, two people died in a multi-vehicle crash on State Route 76 in Pala.

Subsequently, police arrested Jesus Munoz on suspicion of felony driving under the influence and homicide-related charges.

According to the CHP, a 43-year-old Vista man was driving a red Nissan Xterra in the eastbound lanes of SR -76 at Pala Mission Road around midnight.

At the same time, authorities said, a 65-year-old Vista man was driving a white Toyota Rav-4 in the westbound lane of SR -76 at Pala Mission Road.

For reasons still under investigation, CHP said the driver of the Nissan crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with the Toyota.

The driver of the Toyota and a 59-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

Moreover, the San Diego Humane Society was called out to the scene to assist with a dog, described as a Pitbull, that was trapped inside one of the vehicles. 

Meanwhile, the driver of the Nissan, Munoz, was transported to a local area hospital for major but non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
