Injury Reported in Horrific Traffic Accident on Highway 281
San Antonio, TX (March 23, 2024) On Thursday evening, a 63-year-old man was killed in a horrendous multi-vehicle crash near Hildebrand Avenue and Olmos Park.
According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), the traffic accident happened at about 9 p.m. in the 4500 block of Highway 281 southbound.
Reports say that the victim was helping replace another motorist’s flat tire when the horrific crash happened.
Officials say that the man parked his Red Ford F-350 behind a Black Dodge Dart on the right shoulder, and helped the Dodge’s 52-year-old male driver replace a flat tire.
Meanwhile, the driver of a southbound silver Toyota 4Runner veered to the right to avoid a vehicle that drifted into their lane. Moreover, the Toyota approached the crest of a hill, which hindered the driver’s view of the road, causing the Toyota to hit the back of the Ford’s trailer.
The collision led the driver of the Toyota to lose control and struck the driver-side rear panel of the Dodge Dart. Afterward, the impact of the crash caused the Dodge to hit another vehicle, a Black Mazda 5. Ultimately, the Toyota hit and killed the 63-year-old man.
Meanwhile, the Dodge driver suffered abdominal injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
Officials say that the Toyota driver was evaluated and was found not to be intoxicated.
