1 Dead in Palo Alto Multi-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101
PALO ALTO, CA (August 8, 2019) – A person died in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 101 on August 5.
The incident shut down all southbound lanes of Highway 101 for around six hours. CHP officers and the Palo Alto Fire Department came to the scene at around 3.30 a.m. on Highway 101 near the Embarcadero Road off-ramp.
A box truck rear-ended one of the two fire trucks.
“It moved the fire engine. The truck was almost perpendicular to the road after it got hit. It went towards the center divider,” said CHP Officer David Morey.
No one occupied the fire truck when the crash occurred. However, authorities ruled out alcohol and drugs as a factor in the collision.
Responders transported the truck driver of to Stanford Hospital where he later succumbed to death.
Hazmat crews came to the scene clean up around 100 gallons of diesel that spilled on the roadway. However, police did not release any additional information regarding the accident at this time.
