Transient Man Fatally Struck by SUV on Highway 101 in Mountain View
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA (March 24, 2019) – A man was killed in a pedestrian crash Sunday evening in Mountain View, authorities said.
The fatal crash happened just after 7:00 p.m. on northbound Highway 101 at Rengstorff Avenue off-ramp.
Witnesses told officers that a male pedestrian was running from the right shoulder toward the center divider, when it was struck by a white 2001 Subaru Forester SUV on the first lane.
Responding firefighters and paramedics took the pedestrian to Standford Hospital, where the individual was declared dead. The victim was only described as a transient white man in his 20s. As of Monday afternoon, his name had not yet been released pending family notification.
The SUV driver, a 22-year-old Hayward man, remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. He was unharmed.
A SigAlert was issued in the area, blocking all northbound lanes until around 7:35 p.m. for the on-scene investigation.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the crash.
