Man and Woman Fatally Injured in Accident near Little Mountain Park

MOUNT VERNON, WA (April 16, 2018) – A driver and passenger were killed in a collision on Little Mountain Road, when their car was struck by an SUV, on Monday evening.

Mount Vernon police were alerted about the two-vehicle crash at the 3000 block of Little Mountain Road just before 9:00 PM. Responding officers found a silver two-door car in a ditch with its passenger-side damaged. The female driver and male passenger, both adults, were pinned inside the car and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers also found a white SUV which had front-end damage on the roadway, with an adult male inside. He sustained minor injuries.

Based on the investigation, the silver car was driving eastbound on Little Mountain and the white SUV was driving westbound. It appeared the silver car crossed the center line for an unknown reason and veered sideways across the westbound lane, where it was struck by the SUV. The SUV couldn’t stop in time to avoid the collision.

The road was blocked off for several hours while detectives with the Mount Vernon Police and Washington State Patrol investigated the scene. The driver of the white SUV cooperated with investigators and provided a blood sample voluntarily. He was also examined by a Washington State Patrol Drug Recognition Expert and was released based on the evaluation.

The victims needed to be pulled out of the wrecked vehicle and turned over to the Skagit County Coroner’s Office for identification and notification of family. Their identities have not yet been released to the public.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has additional information is urged to call the 24-hour dispatch information number at (360) 428-3211. You may also call the Mount Vernon Police Department at (360) 336-6271 during business hours.
