Driver Fatally Injured after Car Crashes into Tree near Highway 111
RANCHO MIRAGE, CA (September 24, 2018) – A motorist was killed Monday evening following a solo-car crash on Bob Hope Drive. The identity of the victim was not immediately released to the public, pending notification of next of kin.
According to officials with Cal Fire, the incident took place at about 9:50 PM near Highway 111. A vehicle was traveling between 80 and 100 miles per hour before it slammed into a palm tree.
The driver had to be extricated from the wrecked car before he was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Other vehicles were not involved in the crash, and no other injuries were reported by the authorities.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be disclosed once it becomes available.
