Motorcyclist Dead in Bonsall Accident
BONSALL, CA (January 3, 2019) — A motorcyclist sustained fatal injuries after crashing with a wrong-way DUI driver on Tuesday, January 1.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 3:54 a.m. on the westbound lanes of Highway 76 near Via Monserate in Bonsall.
A 25-year-old man living at Camp Pendleton was traveling in a Lexus IS 300 in the wrong direction on the westbound lanes of Highway 76 when he crashed head-on with the driver of a Suzuki motorcycle, killing the motorcyclist, CHP stated.
The driver of the Lexus was rushed to Palomar Medical Center with minor scratches. He was found to be under the influence and was subsequently arrested, according to CHP.
The westbound lanes of the highway were shut down for several hours as the investigation was conducted at the scene.
The identity of the motorcyclist was not immediately released.
