Speeding Rider Dies in Head-On Crash on Highway 74 in Lake Elsinore
LAKE ELSINORE, CA (September 30, 2019) – A motorcyclist died after a head-on collision with a vehicle Monday afternoon in Lake Elsinore.
The crash happened around 12:50 p.m. on Highway 74 at Grand Avenue.
CHP officials said a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer was driving westbound on the highway, while a sports bike-type motorcycle was heading eastbound at a high rate of speed.
As the rider exited the curve in the roadway, the Mitsubishi driver was turning left into his driveway. The two vehicles collided head-on.
As a result, the rider died at the scene. Authorities only identified him as a Lake Elsinore man.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, also a Lake Elsinore resident, did not sustained any injuries.
One lane of the Ortega Highway was temporarily closed in the area, but the California Highway Patrol directed traffic through the crash scene.
CHP officials are still investigating the fatal incident.
